The oldest building in La Défense: CNIT
La Défense is characterized by different building phases.
In the picture on the right you can see the oldest building, the so-called CNIT (Centre National des Industries et des Techniques) which was built between 1956 and 1958. In the past, the CNIT was an innovation in modern architecture due to its individual ferroconcrete construction. It is located next to the west-east axis. The area around this building, which is still undeveloped in this picture, was shaped in three main building phases which were named according to its character:
- Uniformity
- Monumentality and
- Individuality
