Building Phases - Individuality - Artistic Decoration

Since the mid of the 1970s art played an important role in the development of La Défense. Today, there are more than 60 modern sculptures as well as many artistic constitutions. The artistic focus is located on the pedestrian area in front of La Grande Arche. It is not for nothing that Pletsch (142) defines La Défense as a "living museum of contemporary arts".
Many artists have contributed to the artistic decoration of La Défense, amongst others Alexander Calder, Piotr Kowalski, Miró and Aiko Miyawaki.
Furthermore, La Défense has one of the biggest cinemas in Europe, the Dome Imax with a screen of 1200 m² and the state ballet school.
The pictures on the bottom show different artistic sculptures from different artists with different intentions.
